I'm looking to find some prices on how much some machining work will cost me. I want to have a slight bore (probably .5mm), deck the block and head, port and polish the head, and turn the crank if it needs it. Any ideas how much I can expect to pay?

Call Dougie up and see what he says.... but you may have a long wait for it.

I had planned on going to him since he built my father's motor as well as basically everybody else in Auburn. I was just wondering if anybody that has had work done roughly remembers what they paid. If not I'll give him a call sometime. It's going to be awhile before I can afford any of this anyway.

I paid a little over 200$ for a bore/hone/deck/valve seals, etc. Took him about 2 weeks. Then everything was balanced by some quack in weedsport. That was about another 200.

Yeah I paid about the same. Usually he gets about 80-100 for the block. Head work depends on how much you do it could be anywhere for a couple hundred to thousands, just valve seals and decking of the heads runs 150ish. Balancing usually is 150-200, but the guy in weedsport can take a long time.

I paid 175 for the balance, around 75 for the hone, and just paid 175 for a 3 angle exhaust and a 4 angle intake. I was quoted 750-900 for a decently aggressive port and polish. Doug does gret machine work and also does a good job on the valve jobs, but for the money of the port and polish I would look into another shop that specializes in porting your specific motor and application.

Yea I'm waaay out of state now. Unfortunately the motor I wanted to build is still sitting in my dad's garage in Auburn in as many pieces as a healthy b18 can be in. Nobody will buy it or the tranny I have for it, and I don't have the space or time to build another car right now.
